I have never heard of this product. I asked a contact in Brazil about this, and he had never heard of it. Maybe the professors at the University of Georgia know.

Here is the Canadian website http://www.twinoxide.ca/ it looks like a good product for livestock and humans. I think it is originally from Europe.
Here is another website i think they are changing the name www.duka.ca/index.html

This product , (two components) , is used extensively in Germany - Chlor dioxid Cl O2 - and is used to remove biofilms and bacterial contamination in waterpipes. As a pig consultant I have recommended it for use with success in both finishing farms and piglet production. Particularly after the use of medicated water the Flora in the pipework becomes inbalanced and Colis and Salmonellen can settle. It is mixed in to the water supply sometimes using a special pump sold by the suppliers but normalwater medication devices also work, for example the Dosatron device. One warning when using Chlor dioxid for the first time large amounts of bio film are set free which block the nipple drinker filters, ensure you have time to unscrew the drinkers and clean them. The product is safe enough to use in populated housing.
I believe the pig industry in Germany took the product over from the poultry sector.

Create all problems as another chlorine stuff, even producer deny it. Create disinfection byproducts in contact with organics (THM's). "when applied to drinking water, a portion of CLO2 will form CLO2- (chlorite), upon reaction with natural organic matter (any organic presented from biofilm or another source)".
Also, this stuff is corrosive at high concentrations ( shock you need for biofilm destroying). One of part should not come in contact with oxidants, and prepared solution have short shelf life.

It is used very widely in India.

Lot of poultry producers prepare by themselves and Branded products are also available.

One of the most economical product available here. Used for Terminal disinfection and sometimes for water sanitation.

At what level is it corrosive? I thought it's not supposed to be corrosive, also what is the shelf life of the mixed product and how long is it active in the water (how long would it be available in a storage tank)

Once mixed the solution has a shelf life of around 8 weeks. Before mixing, the two components have an unlimited shelf life. The maximum permitted solution in Germany is 0,1 ppm. At normal dosage levels it is not corrosive but be warned sometimes the biofilm and ironoxide within piping acts as a stopper for existing leaks. Chlordioxid is degraded by the biofilm within pipeing so it is necesary to check the pH of the water at drinkers along the pipe route to ensure that the entire pipe is clean. At first only the drinkers at the beginning of the pipeline are clean as until the biofilm is destroyed it will degrade the CLO2. As succesive lengths of pipe are cleared the CLO2 works further along the pipe way. When the entire pipeline is clear a certain amount of "depot cleaning" takes effect so that one can usualy wait around 6 weeks before the next treatment.

if i treat into a holding tank of about 4 - 5 days supply will i get any action in my water lines.
Reason i would like to do it that way is because i have a number of barns and then i wouldn't have to have a pump at each barn.

The length of activity depends on the amount of biofilm, because of the high contamination risks holding tanks have not been used in the pig sector in Germany for over 20 years so I don´t have any direct experience of dosing directly into a holding tank. I dont see any problem if you dose the tank at the CLO2 recomended levels as advised by your supplier and then check pH levels along the course of the pipe work until the pipeway is free of contamination. With luck the tank may hold enough solution to clear the entire length of pipeway, if not you will have to mix a new batch of CLO2.

I knew this product. It's originally manufactures in Netherland. Perhaps the future water desinfectans, compare to Chlorin usage which had banned in some European Countries. Enclosed are the general info about the product.
