any comments on the addition of organic acids to the feed to control salmonella. What affect does this feed have on the ruminants in a feedlot situation?

I have only experience on Clostridium control. Normaly I use some gastric protected organic acids that are used in monogastric nutrition (piglets) The idea is to bypass the stomachs and to change the intestinal PH.

We are currently testing out the use of a patented virgin coconut oil product that has incredible antipathogenic qualities (tested ok with S. Typhi as well as a host of others). A small trial with poultry showed no adverse effects on growth or health. Maybe dicey with ruminants due to presence of ruminal microbes which may be harmed by the use of organic acids due to their non-specificity.
